Day 18: Hopping a Bus?

From the sound of things in our guidebook, today’s route is not as pleasant as others. Today we are walking from Mansilla to Leon, 18.6km (11.6 mi), and much of it is along busy routes. Sèbastien and I are considering taking a bus from the outskirts into town. Would you consider this cheating a little?

SAFETY FIRST! Too many pedestrian v. auto accidents around here lately... I'm sure you will be careful. "Don't be a hero!"

um, NO!!! I agree with Pheobe, and if the drivers are the same as they were when I was in Spain way back in 98, then you definitely don't want to be playing chicken with cars on the road.....

No such thing as cheating in this context. Either you have maximum fun and enjoyment or not. Do whatever gives you that and throw away the "shoulds".

Todd and I once gave up halfway thru a bicycle trip on the coast of Maine. Instead of bulling through bad roads and weather, we went back for our car and in the process had one of the biggest and most hilarious vacation adventures of our lives. All because we decided not to be mired in sticking to the plan.

We took the bus, and I was SO GLAD! We passed the other people walking on the roads, and while I understand their determination to complete every inch of the Camino, Sebastien and I just looked at each other and said, ¨Man. I am glad I am on this bus!¨ It was such retched road there! Imagine hiking around IKEAs and Kmarts, and then add in a couple used car lots, and some highways, and you´ve basically got it.
